One of the most versatile and familiar voices in Minnesota sports broadcasting, Tom Hanneman’s career has spanned 50 years.

Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, his family of 8 brothers and sisters migrated throughout the Midwest, before landing in Minneapolis. His first taste of broadcasting came in 1970 as a disc jockey at Minnesota State University followed by a radio reporter position at the University of Minnesota. While in school at the U, he also worked as a dispatcher at WCCO-TV. Hanneman would spend 16 years at the station, working as a sports reporter and anchor. In 1979, Tom and photographer Keith Brown were held hostage while covering an uprising at Red Lake Reservation, narrowly escaping in a story that drew national attention.

Hanneman’s work has taken him around the globe, from the White House to the World Championships of Basketball and the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

In 1989, he joined the Minnesota Timberwolves as their TV and Radio host and reporter, working alongside Kevin Harlan. He ultimately became the Wolves television play-by-play voice, working alongside analysts Trent Tucker, Mychal Thompson and Jim Petersen. He also served as the Lynx TV play-by-play voice for multiple seasons.

Hanneman’s talents were recognized on a national level, as well. He worked five seasons as the host of NBA Radio, anchoring the league’s international network that featured All Star weekend, the NBA game of the week, the NBA Play-offs including the Finals and the NBA Draft. Tom also hosted a weekly basketball show for the BBC in London, in addition to weekly NBA programs in Australia and New Zealand.

After 23 years with the Timberwolves, he moved to Fox Sports North, where he’s served as the host for the Timberwolves, Wild, Twins and Gopher hockey pre-and-post game shows, along with Hockey Day Minnesota.

Tom and his wife Nancy have been married over four decades. They have three children Adam, Courtney and Kyle and five exceptional grandchildren.
