Let the Upper Midwest Emmy® Foundation help you pay for some of your school tuition! 

Deadline for scholarship applications is February 3rd, 2025

The NATAS-Upper Midwest Foundation offers $1,500 student scholarship grants to be used for tuition & books.  We even pay the school directly so you don’t have to claim it as income for taxes!

The Bob Fransen Leadership Scholarship is for those seeking management and leadership roles in the media industry.

SCHOLARSHIPS ARE OPEN TO:

College/university/technical undergraduate students with a declared video media major or minor. Students must live or attend school in the five-state area served by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa & western Wisconsin).

FOR SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION:
  • Applicants must be officially “accepted” into an accredited college media program.
  • Submit completed online application form.
  • Submit completed relevant essay: Essays judged based on ability to focus on the topic, answer the question and stay within the 450 word limit.  We will also pay attention to spelling and grammar.
  • Submit a copy of your most recent high school/college transcript.
  • Letter or letters of recommendation from relevant faculty or professionals be accepted via email info@midwestemmys.org, providing it comes directly from the faculty or advisor’s school account.  Hard copy letters should be signed and printed on letterhead paper.

Completed application, essay, transcript, video link and letters of recommendation must be completed by February 3rd, 2025.

Scholarship recipients will be announced March 10th, 2025.

Payments to schools will be made in August 2025.

HONOR CODE

All information supplied to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Upper Midwest Foundation for the purposes of consideration in any scholarship competition must be accurate and is subject to verification.

 

By submitting an application for the NATAS Scholarships, you are certifying that:

1. your grades and test scores are being reported accurately;

2. your essays and other written responses are your work alone, without inappropriate assistance from others or the inclusion of unattributed text authored by others;

3. your representation of your involvement in creative works, school activities, and field or work experience is completely truthful;

4. your creative works, to the extent they include the work of others, are submitted with the full awareness and consent of the original creators; and

5. you intend to apply any scholarship fund awarded towards a college-level education in a major aligned to pursuing a career in the television industry or related field.

Members of the Scholarship Committee and the Board of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation determine the scholarship recipients and their decisions are final.

Applications found to have violated the letter or spirit of this Honor Code are subject to disqualification from this and future scholarship consideration and/or revocation of any scholarships awarded, at the sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

We collect information from you when you apply for the NATAS Scholarships.

When applying for the scholarships, as appropriate, you may be asked to provide your: name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number or grades, test scores and other academic, financial, or demographic information.

 

What do we use your information for?

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:

1. To administer the Scholarships competition

2. To send periodic emails updating you on the scholarship process and other NATAS

activities

If you are selected for a scholarship, you grant us permission to release your name, hometown and high school name in our media announcement. We may wish to share additional biographical and contact information with journalists reporting on your selection, and will seek your prior permission before doing so.

 

How do we protect your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you enter, submit, or access your personal information.

 

Do we disclose any information to outside parties?

Except as described above, we do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website or conducting the scholarship, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our policies, or protect ours or other’s rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally identifiable applicant information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

 

Changes to our Privacy Policy

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on the online application at https://midwestemmys.org/students-teachers/scholarships and/or update the Privacy Policy modification date on subsequent versions of the paper application.
