Alyx Sacks co-anchors KCCI 8 News This Morning. Alyx called seven states home before arriving in Iowa in April 2015. The daughter of a college football coach, Alyx played a different kind of football at the collegiate level. She was a member of the University of Nevada Wolf Pack women’s soccer team. After graduating with a degree in journalism and sociology, Alyx kicked off her career as an MMJ for NBC Montana in Butte before returning to Reno as an anchor/reporter for KRNV, News 4.

Scott Carpenter reports on breaking news and traffic for KCCI 8 This Morning. A former sports anchor in Columbus, Georgia, Scott joined KCCI as a news anchor/reporter during the disconnected times of COVID in December of 2020. He was an immediate hit with viewers, covering all kinds of stories as a general assignment reporter before joining the morning show team.
Jason Sydejko is a 5-time Upper Midwest Emmy-nominated Meteorologist. has been delivering reliable forecasts since joining in January 2015. He was promoted lead Storm Team 8 as Chief Meteorologist in August. Nicole Tam is a seasoned reporter hailing from Honolulu, who brings a wealth of experience to Central Iowa. Her coverage spans medicine, healthcare, education, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicole’s fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin unearthed the hidden world of “maternity tourism” while she was still a student the University of Hawaii at Manoa, earning her a first place award in Student Investigative Reporting from the Hawai’i SPJ.

REGIONAL EMMY®
DIRECTOR CAST

Director-Cast” is a behind the scenes version of the 24th Annual Upper Midwest Emmy® Gala. Our social media genius is directing the Gala this year, limiting her ability to be snarky on Twitter, so we’re hooking up a webcam and giving you a peek behind the curtain at how the Gala sausage gets made over on the Upper Midwest Facebook page.

When Amy Schmelzer isn’t skewering friends and foes alike on Twitter, she’s a 6-time recipient of an Upper Midwest Regional Emmy® for Outstanding Directing, Amy just celebrated (?) her 26th anniversary at KCCI in Des Moines where she’s worked her way up from weekend graphic artist to the operations manager.
