MEMBERSHIP

ELIGIBILITY

Persons who are professionally engaged in the television and media industry and its related fields within The Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter’s geographic boundary. 

 

A Professional Member shall be obliged to pay dues and shall have the right, if in good standing, to vote and to hold office and shall be eligible to serve on committees.  Professional members shall also receive additional membership benefits from time to time as the Board of Governors deems appropriate.

ELIGIBILITY AREA

All broadcast, cable, broadband, cable/community/government access and video content providers (not close circuit or venue specific) located within the following Designated Market Areas (DMAs):  Minneapolis-St. Paul, Des Moines-Ames, Cedar Rapids-Waterloo-Iowa City-Dubuque, Sioux Falls (Mitchell), Fargo-Valley City, La Crosse-Eau Claire, Duluth-Superior, Sioux City, Rochester-Mason City-Austin, Minot-Bismarck-Dickinson, Rapid City, Mankato.  New Media entries must be intended for consumption and be of interest to this regional audience.

LIMITATIONS OF MEMBERSHIP

No individual member, of whatever classification, shall have any right, title or interest in any property, assets, monies, or things of value belonging to the National Academy or Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter.  No individual member shall be responsible for any financial obligation of the National Academy or Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter.  Membership in Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter shall not be assigned nor transferred in any manner to another person.

Membership Duration

Once registered as an Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter Member, Membership shall continue (so long as he/she is in “good standing”) from January 1 of one year until December 31st of the same year, or as determined by resolution of the Board.

NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP

Members of Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter are also members of the National Academy and are entitled to all the rights and privileges, and are subject to all the rules and regulations, of membership in the National Academy.  A Chapter census will be reported annually to the National Academy.

TRANSFER

A member in “good standing” may transfer from Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter to another National Academy chapter upon notification to both of the chapters involved.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

A member may request a leave of absence for a reasonable length of time (not to exceed six (6) months) provided all current dues and/or fees are paid.  Such requests shall be made in writing to Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter’s Board of Governors and approved by a majority vote thereof.  Said member shall have none of the rights and privileges of membership for the duration of the granted leave of absence.

RESIGNATION AND SUSPENSION, TERMINATION AND SANCTIONS

All rights, privileges, and benefits of membership shall cease upon any of the following: 

A. Voluntary resignation by the member with Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter;

B. Death of the member;

C. Expiration of the membership duration;

D. Failure of the member to pay membership dues, fees, and/or assessments in a timely manner;

E. Termination, suspension and/or sanctions may be imposed upon a member for “good cause shown” by:

1. A majority vote of the Board of Governors confirmed by a majority vote of eligible voting members;

2. A two-thirds vote of the Board of Governors; or

3. A two-thirds vote of the voting membership.  

“Good cause shown” may include acts detrimental to the Board and its work on behalf of the organization and/or acts detrimental to the Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter and its mission.  This could include violation of Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter’s Articles, Bylaws, and/or Rules, misappropriation of Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter assets, and/or actions/omissions in contravention to the mission and values of Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter. 

 

Pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 317A.411, any member being terminated must be given reasonable notice and the opportunity for a hearing, if requested by the member in writing.
