<strong>Reed T. Erickson</strong><br />
Bloomington Jefferson High School; Bloomington, MN</p>
<p>A member of the National Honor Society, Reed has a thirst for knowledge and understanding that drives his desire to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. In his application essay, Reed talked about his love of news – “hearing it, seeing it, reading it and most importantly, reporting on it.” His career began in elementary school, reading the morning announcements. In middle school, he volunteered at the local cable-access station, working on everything from football games to choir concerts. In high school, he hit his stride, getting a chance to get in front of the camera as co-host and writer for “Tomorrow’s Voices Today”. Reed also participated in a mentoring program at WCCO-TV. He will attend the University of Missouri – Columbia.</p>

<strong>Kathryn Alana Giangreco</strong><br />
Apple Valley High School; Apple Valley, MN</p>
<p>Kathryn is a 3.975 GPA student headed for Texas Christian University to study Broadcast Journalism. And her advisor has no doubt she’ll succeed, describing her as an “accomplished young woman”. While in high school, she won numerous local and national academic awards, while also being involved in a wide variety of extra curricular activities, including DECA, the newspaper, charity fund-raising, coaching and refereeing soccer, and more. She was also a reporter on KARE-11’s “Whatever” show. Kathryn’s ultimate goal is to be a field reporter, investigator, interviewer and news anchor in the national arena. She is well on the way to achieving that goal.</p>

<strong>Rachel Korman</strong><br />
Hopkins High School; Hopkins, MN</p>
<p>When it comes to television, Rachel has gone from “knowing everything about every Nickelodeon show” to seeing television as her future. She has started on her career path as student producer-director for Hopkins High School’s “Royal Update”. Her out-going personality has served her well in on-air roles as reporter, news anchor, show host, sports anchor and color commentator. Rachel will attend Indiana University to study journalism and media communications. Her advisor has no doubt Rachel will take her passion for this craft into a long career of producing and anchoring news and sports programming, adding, “I know she’ll do well!”</p>

<strong>Timothy Paul Nelson</strong><br />
Sauk Rapids-Rice High School; Sauk Rapids, MN</p>
<p>“Even as a young child,” Timothy writes, “I was captivated by television. Not just the shows I would watch, but how it was all put together.” Reaching high school, he took advantage of the opportunities and technology his school presented, and got his chance to actually put it all together as a producer for “The Weekday News”. Within weeks, Timothy decided he wanted to work in television for the rest of his life. Timothy maintained a 3.7 GPA while participating in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, including dram, DECA and Drumline clubs. As a senior, Timothy was Executive Producer of “The Weekday News”. One of his videos won 3rd place in the NASA Student Involvement Program. Timothy will pursue his to passions &#8211; television and technology &#8211; at the University of Minnesota.</p>

<strong>Todd Sandler</strong><br />
Hopkins High School; Hopkins, MN</p>
<p>“Since the age of seven, “ Todd writes, “when I first had my hands on a video camera, I knew that I wanted to be involved in television and cinema.” As a student at Hopkins High School., Todd exhibited his passion for broadcasting and film production, working on the weekly “Royal Update” and producing films and videos for friends and acquaintances in his spare time. Todd wrote and was photo editor for the school newspaper and was an integral part of both the TV and Film Clubs at school. Summers were spent being a Camp Counselor. “Todd is an exceptional person”, wrote his advisor. “He is a dedicated and responsible young man who is diligently working toward a career in broadcast communications.” Todd will attend the University of Minnesota.</p>

<strong>Rochelle Larice Younan</strong><br />
Centennial High School; Circle Pines, MN</p>
<p>Rochelle is entering college with an already impressive resume of broadcast journalism accomplishments, including KARE-11’s “Whatever” show, packages broadcast on Channel One, and several awards from Student Television Network. She was student producer for Centennial High School’s “Cougar Connection” broadcast, which is also seen on local access cable. Rochelle hopes to be an international correspondent, working from the middle East; to get there, she will pursue a major in Broadcast journalism and a minor in International Studies at Azusa Pacific University. Her advisor describes her as a newsroom leader. “Rochelle will accomplish anything she puts her mind to do”, he says.</p>

<p><strong>John Baumstark</strong><br />
Bismarck, ND High School</p>
<p>John carries a 3.48 grade point level while winning numerous writing, photo and speech awards. His application includes outstanding community service and considerable work at KXMB as a camera operator and videographer. He intends to pursue a double major in Print/Broadcast journalism, with a minor in Graphic Design at either the University of Kentucky or the University of North Dakota. John writes “it would be a dream come true to (work) for a principled nationally syndicated television show.” His high school instructor writes “the harder the lesson or more competitive the assignment, you will find that John does his best work.”</p>
<p>John is the recipient of the Silver Circle Scholarship.</p>
<p><strong>Stephanie Dahle</strong><br />
Owatonna, MN Senior High School</p>
<p>Stephanie carries a 4.0 average and still finds time to be Senior Class President and letter in drama, mock trial, band and choir. She was a two time VFW Voice of Democracy winner and Speaker of the House at the National Young Leaders Conference in 2003. She also mentors young Spanish-speaking children through the Big Sisters program. She intends to major in Journalism with a minor in Spanish at NYU. Stephanie writes that her “dream is to be a correspondent for an American News Media in a Spanish-speaking country” and “Several years ago, I realized my dream was to be a television journalist.” Her high school instructor writes Stephanie “is one of those ‘standout’ students…more interested in, and aware of, the world around her than almost any student I know.”</p>
<p>Stephanie has been awarded the 2004 Board of Governors Scholarship.</p>
<p><strong>Ryan Ruud</strong><br />
Roseau, MN High School</p>
<p>Ryan carries a 3.5 grade point average. This while participating in Track, Band, Speech, Drama, Mock Trial, the school newspaper and National Honor Society. Ryan has participated in church and community service in Roseau. Although his small northern Minnesota city has little opportunity for TV experience, Ryan has worked hard on KCAJ-FM radio while continuing his dream of a career in the visual medium. Ryan does have some TV experience in a way. As a childhood cancer survivor, Ryan has been a guest on the Miracle Network. He writes “While I was in the hospital, television provided a comic escape from the horrors of the pediatric oncology ward” and “It’s the one thing I look forward to being a part of.” His high school instructor writes “I listen often to his broadcast and am impressed at his professionalism and ability in the broadcast field”. Ryan intends to a degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Theatre at Saint Cloud State University.</p>
<p>Ryan is the recipient of the Twin Cities Public Television Scholarship</p>
<p><strong>Cory Michael Tolliver</strong><br />
Hopkins, MN High School</p>
<p>Cory carries a 3.37 average while maintaining a demanding schedule serving as a leader in the KHOP-TV Club, playing Hockey, Football and Intramural Basketball and Band. Cory produces videos to assist High School counselors, volunteers to tutor math for grade schoolers and helped coach a youth baseball team. He writes “I have set high goals for myself and have worked hard to achieve them” and “One of my favorite things to do with my time in TV class is to edit audio and video, using Final Cut Pro 4”. His high school instructor writes “Cory is one of my go-to guys for new projects and for wrapping up old projects” and notes that Cory has learned to be “an advocate for who may not be able to advocate for themselves…an all around great guy” Cory intends to Major in Mass Communications/Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Speech Communication and theater arts at MSU-Moorhead.</p>
<p>Cory has been awarded this year’s David Bloom Memorial/NTA Upper Midwest Scholarship.</p>
