Let the Upper Midwest Emmy® Chapter/Foundation help you pay for some of your school tuition!  We’d like to thank 2017 Scholarship Sponsors Slumberland, Hubbard Broadcasting, Carlini & Beaurline Families. Deadline for scholarship applications is Monday February 6th, 2017.

The NATAS-Upper Midwest Chapter/Foundation offers $2,000 student scholarship grants to be used for tuition & books.  We even pay the school directly so you don’t have to claim it as income for taxes!

Scholarships are open to high school and college/university students living or attending school in the five-state area served by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa & western Wisconsin)

For consideration scholarship applicants must:

  1. Submit completed online scholarship grant application form.
  2. Submit completed relevant essay. College scholarships require an additional Video Link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc) of your best work. Time Limit: 15 minutes.
  3. Submit a copy of your most recent high school/college transcript.
  4. Letter or letters of recommendation from relevant faculty or advisors.  Letters of recommendation can be accepted via email info@midwestemmys.org , providing it comes directly from the faculty or advisor’s school account.  Hard copy letters should be signed and printed on letterhead paper.
  5. Each scholarship requires the student to write a mandatory essay for the scholarships offered.  Essays will be judged based on your ability to focus on the topic, answer the question and stay within the 450 word limit.  We will also pay attention to spelling and grammar.

Completed application, essay, transcript, Video Link (if necessary) and letters of recommendation must be completed by February 6th, 2017.  You may also email materials to info@midwestemmys.org.  

Scholarship recipients will be announced in March, 2017.  Payments to schools will be made in August, 2017.

NATAS – UPPER MIDWEST CHAPTER/FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES  

HIGH SCHOOL MEDIA & JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIPS: Open to high school seniors planning to major in electronic media or video journalism  and have been accepted into an accredited post-secondary college or university for the fall of 2016.  The grants will be used for tuition and fees.

Carol Rueppel Leadership Scholarship

Carol Rueppel Leadership Scholarship

Carol Rueppel Leadership Scholarship is for students who have demonstrated leadership skills in their school or community and who are planning to seek careers in broadcasting or electronic media. Carol Rueppel is a past President of the Upper Midwest Chapter of NATAS. She served as General Manager of KMSP-TV for 13 years before retiring in 2015.

Ulysses CarliniUlysses Carlini Media Scholarship: The Ulysses Carlini Media Scholarship will be awarded to an individual who aspires to a career in commercial television, video media or filmmaking. Ulysses Carlini began his career in 1953 and dedicated his career to television programming fit for the entire family.

HELP A STUDENT WITH A SCHOLARSHIP DONATION!

You can make a fully tax-deductible donation to the NATAS – Upper Midwest Chapter Foundation.  We are an officially recognized 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.  All money raised goes into scholarships and distributed directly to the student’s school for tuition and books.

Media-related individuals, companies or organizations may sponsor a NATAS – UMW student scholarship.  Sponsorship includes:

  • Participating in the scholarship selection process
  • Presentation of scholarship at school award ceremony (pending school approval)
  • Company logo recognition on scholarship award presented
  • Company logo with links in scholarship web and mass email promotion as well as printed in Student Awards and Emmy® Gala commemorative program.
